Dr. Pedram Yaghmai

Nothing beats being able to work with his hands and, for Dr. Yaghmai, dentistry offered a way to do what he enjoys most while also allowing him to build strong relationships with his patients. He attended Virginia Commonwealth University to earn both his Bachelor of Science in Biology and his Doctor of Dental Surgery and has been providing incredible dental services for nearly two full decades.

Dr. Yaghmai is thoroughly trained in various interests such as bone grafting, dental implants, and sleep apnea treatments. He’s also an active member of several organizations, such as the Virginia Dental Association and the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. At home, he enjoys playing and watching soccer, practicing the piano as well as yoga and meditation, and being with his family. He’s also passionate about giving back to the community and has participated in the Mission of Mercy Project to help the less fortunate.

Dr. Amro Shihabi

After graduating with his Doctorate of Dental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Shihabi went on to earn his medical degree from Louisiana State University to complete a general surgery internship at the school’s Health Science Center. Later, he underwent advanced training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Mayland Medical Center, the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, and the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore! Today, he is a clinical instructor at the Washington Hospital Center in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Whenever he isn’t at the office, Dr. Shihabi loves spending time with his family and children either being outdoors or traveling. He’s also lectured nationally and internationally about oral and maxillofacial surgery, and he even participates in annual mission trips to bring dental treatments to those in need.

Dr. Hadi Ansari

Dr. Ansari loves people as well as implementing his passion for the arts and sciences through dentistry. For him, the best part of being an oral surgeon is having the opportunity to improve the lives of others every day. He graduated in the top 10% of his class at the University of Pittsburgh, and afterward, he underwent advanced training in oral and maxillofacial surgery in South Florida at Broward Health Medical Center and Nova Southeastern University. His expertise involves in-office and hospital-based anesthesia, complex bone grafting, dental implant surgery, surgical teeth extraction, and more!

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Ansari loves spending time with his wife—who is a physician in the Northern Virginia and DC area. When he’s free, he also likes hiking, watching sports, and challenging friends at racquetball. He also has many aquariums and enjoys traveling, having recently visited Italy and Costa Rica.

The staff is exceptionally polite and well knowledgeable. Received an implant and a tooth extraction. The dentist was very nice and gentle. Felt very well taken of and was given a heads-up for all costs before and after the procedure. The office is super clean with lots of elbow room.

How do I find the best place to get dental work done?

There is no one dental office that is ideal for everyone. Because each person has their own needs and wants, it will require that you sit down and decide what is most important for you when it comes to selecting a dentist. You may find it helpful to consider the following:

  • Do you prefer a general dentist or specialist?
  • Do you want someone who is in-network with your dental insurance or who treats your smile without the confines of insurance?
  • Do you prefer their office to be located near your home or work?
  • Do you want someone who believes it is important to incorporate innovative solutions to achieve lasting results?

By thinking through these questions, you can narrow your search and ultimately find the right person for you.

What do you do if you can’t afford a dentist?

While dental insurance is one of the best ways to save money when visiting an oral surgeon for treatment, you may wonder if there are other payment options available. Many offices, including ours, offer flexible financing as a beneficial solution for those who need help to pay for essential care.

With third-party companies like CareCredit, you can enroll in a low or no-interest payment plan that makes it easy to pay off your balance over time through monthly installments. This allows you to get the care you need without sacrificing your savings.

What is the best way to find a dentist who does dental implants?

Since dental implants are the most superior form of tooth replacement, it’s smart to make sure that you do your homework before choosing a dentist to place them. Since there are two phases of treatment – placement and restoration – you’ll need to decide if you want a professional who can do both or just the restoration.

There are three different types of dentists who can place dental implants - periodontists, oral surgeons, and prosthodontics. The latter can also place your custom restoration.

You will find that many organizations offer advanced training on dental implants, but it’s best to find someone with extensive training and involvement in these organizations. At Northern Virgina Oral, Maxillofacial & Implant Surgery, our oral surgeons possess years and even decades of experience and remain at the forefront of advancements in the field.

How much does it cost to get a tooth pulled without insurance?

If you do not have a private dental insurance plan, you may be surprised to learn that the average cost of having a tooth removed can run between $150 and $400. However, this cost largely depends on the location of the tooth, the severity of the damage, and even the geographic location of the practice you’re visiting. If you require sedation, you can expect there to be an additional fee.

Another component to consider is if the teeth being removed are third molars (i.e., wisdom teeth), they are likely to be costlier because they often require an oral surgeon’s expertise. This is why it’s strongly recommended that you use dental insurance to help lower any out-of-pocket costs; however, you can always inquire about flexible financing should you need it.
